Kruger National Park FAQ
What is the best region for first-time visitors?
Southern Kruger is usually the easiest start for first-time safari travellers: lots of great roads, shorter transfers between camps, and excellent wildlife sightings.
How many days do I need for a trip to the Kruger National Park?
You can do 2–3 days and have a great time, but 4–5 days is the ideal length for a relaxed pace and a higher chance of seeing great wildlife sightings.
Is it worth doing only one camp?
Yes, especially for shorter trips. One base means less packing/unpacking and more time for game-viewing.
Should I prioritize tar roads or gravel roads?
Use both. Tar is great for longer drives; while gravel is slower but often more scenic.
Do I need to book far ahead?
Yes. Camps and accommodation fill up quickly, so planning a few months in advance is key. There will almost always be last-minute accommodation available at bigger camps like Skukuza, but if you want to stay in a specific place on a specific date, advance planning is critical.
What are the most common planning mistakes?
Planning far driving distances each day (we suggest no more than 70km max per leg), ignoring gate-time buffers, and picking a month without considering wildlife seasonal patterns.
